It’s In Our DNA

A warm welcome to my friends and family that joined the list this week!

I’ve been thinking a lot about spirals as inspiration for healing since the post last week. They add dimension to cycles. Coming back to the same place, with that slight difference that sometimes makes all the difference.

Here is another spiral song, recorded with the intention of bringing us along for the ride. May it support you in coming back to yourself.

Some additional notes on this recording:

I picked this melody for today because it’s the anniversary of a very special day related to the instrument it was played on.

I played this on a guitar that belonged to my first guitar teacher when I was a senior in high school. Robin Stein was my closest friend’s aunt, and a teacher and mentor to me. She died too soon, when I was a freshman in college, about a year after our first guitar lesson.

Her family gave me her guitar in 2014, and I immediately sought out the original instrument maker to have it restored. With great hesitation, he agreed to meet and take a look at the guitar, and realizing it was the 4th guitar he ever made, in 1977, he agreed to take on the repair project.

Some friends and I took a pilgrimage to his shop in the Santa Cruz mountains on January 2, 2015. It was ready for pickup on Jan 2, 2019, exactly four years later.

Today’s song, “double helix” is a new version of a song that was originally recorded and released on an album I put out in 2019. Here is the first recording (it takes a moment for the volume to fade in):

Wishing you a week of peace.
See you again the next time around!
